Carlos Santana is the High Guru of Rock and Roll. His fusion of rock, salsa and jazz has influenced many, during an illustrious career spanning over four decades. He brings a personal spiritualism to his music that inspires his devoted fans. Getting his start in the late 1960’s San Francisco music scene, Carlos’s connections to Bill Graham lead his band to Woodstock for one of their most famous performances. The release of Santana turned Evil Ways into a Top 100 hit. That was just the beginning. Early 70’s experimenting with jazz fusion, saw Carlos forming the Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 1973, Carlos re-formed Santana, obtaining legal rights to the name. Carlos produced the film score for the movie La Bamba, and in 1985 performed in Live Aid. In 1990, Santana signed with Polygram, and in 1992 toured with Phish as their opening act. In 1998, Carlos was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Consequently in 1999, Santana achieved great success with Supernatural. The single “Smooth” with singer Rob Thomas made the Billboard Hot 100. Carlos was named 15th in Rolling Stones list of the 100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time in 2003. In 2005, he collaborated with Herbie Hancock on the release “Possibilities“. 2010 gave us “Guitar Heaven“. An excellent array of collaborative efforts with the likes of Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Joe Cocker and others. In 2012, we find Carlos in Las Vegas, playing cuts from his latest work “Shape Shifter“. Carlos continues to tour and inspire. If you don’t play along on Guitar Hero 5, or find him on the road, maybe you’ll see him at one of his “Maria, Maria” restaurants. Food for heart and mind.
