Legendary keyboardist Ray Manzarek has passed away at the age of 74. Known worldwide for the soulful eeriness of his preferred Fender Rhodes keyboard, and inspired by the lyrics of Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek laid the foundation of sound for The Doors. Ray and Jim met by chance in 1965 at Venice beach, both attending the University of California in Los Angeles. Together with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger, they built their sound around the poetry of lead singer Jim Morrison. The band broke through with “Break On Through to the Other Side”, then rocketed to stardom in 1967 with the hit single “Light My Fire”.
